Coming Home

Kaitlyn with her husband, parents, and sister at Epcot.

I love to travel. Anywhere. Honestly, I’m not too picky. I like adventurous trips and ones that consist of laying on the beach. I’ll rent a car and drive all around Iceland hiking & exploring, or sit at a beach resort drinking cocktails all week. It’s just the act of switching up my routine and having different experiences that excites me.

This past week I went to Orlando with my family. Niko (my husband) and I flew down a few days early to half work/half lay by the pool and relax (one of the only benefits of covid - working from home). Those two days proved very necessary for me, because once my parents and sister arrived we did 4 days of nonstop Disney. Everyone in our group was 21 or older, so it was a different experience than going with kids.

We carefully planned which rides to go on and which ones we could skip. It was also the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot, so we made it our mission to eat something from each “country”, and drink something from almost every one. Disney creates extra food booths from places that aren’t in the world showcase for the festival, so this was quite the undertaking.  I think there was close to 20 “countries” to stop at. The festival started at 11AM, and we literally spent all day working our way around the world, sharing food at each country, and fighting over the last bites. It was highly enjoyable.

Coming back from a trip is always hard for me. I’m so excited while I’m there. I’m not one of those people who anticipate the end of the trip. I don’t think, “Well this is almost over,” and prepare myself. I enjoy every bit of it and then have a bit of a crash when I come home. I sat on the couch on Sunday and gave myself the afternoon to mope. I unpacked and did random things, like making Christmas Cards (I know it’s October but I have a 50% off coupon), but mostly just read a book.

It’s not that I don’t like my life, I think I just struggle with routine. I like when each day looks a little different. It feels exciting to have different experiences. I get worn out by doing the same things every week, and the weeks go by quickly. I don’t really have an answer to this, because every day can’t be vacation. I try to add things in my weeks to change things up and make everyday life exciting, but there’s just something so different about traveling. So, I don’t have an answer for this or a good way to end this post, but maybe you can relate.
