Season of the Sticks, 24"x36"

$600.00

Oil Paint and Charcoal on Wood Panel

Inspired by the song, “Stick Season,” by Noah Kahan

I’ve been on a Noah Kahan kick lately—his music feels raw and incredibly genuine. His song Stick Season inspired my painting, "Season of the Sticks." In “Stick Season”, Noah (I think we’re on a first-name basis at this point) writes about being caught in a state of transition, using the "season of the sticks" as a metaphor for that strange, in-between time after the leaves have fallen but before the snow arrives. There’s a feeling of being forgotten, left behind to “drink alcohol 'til my friends come home for Christmas.”

We’ve all experienced those periods of waiting, feeling suspended in uncertainty. For this painting, I envisioned driving down a lonely back road—one rarely traveled, lined with bare trees. You might not know exactly where you're headed, but there's something meaningful in that moment of quiet, solitary anticipation if you truly let yourself lean into it.
