One Foot in Sea and One on Shore, 16"x20"
Oil Paint & Charcoal on Wood Panel
Inspired by the song, “Irish Eyes,” by Rose Betts
This painting is inspired by “Irish Eyes” by Rose Betts—a song that drifts between longing and belonging, much like the tide. The title comes from an old saying about duality, and this piece explores that in both emotion and landscape: one foot anchored on familiar ground, the other drawn to the mystery of the sea. Before painting, I wrote the lyrics in charcoal on the wood panel, and now their ghostly fragments surface here and there beneath the oil, like memories that refuse to sink. Blue is the dominant hue—mirroring the eyes in the song, deep with feeling. This piece holds the space between rootedness and restlessness, a tender balance of heart and horizon.
