Under the Surface, 20"x16"

$360.00

Oil Paint and Charcoal on Wood Panel

Inspired by the song, “Oceans,” by Seafret

The song “Oceans” by Seafret is a hauntingly beautiful exploration of the desire to be close to someone while grappling with the fear of vulnerability, which often leads to emotional distance and walls. The lyrics resonate with a profound sense of longing, using the metaphor of oceans to symbolize the vast emotional divide that can emerge in a relationship. The imagery of water evokes feelings being overwhelmed, suggesting the singer's struggle to navigate the pain of the distance.

When I listen to this song, I’m transported back to the rocky coast of Maine. A few years ago, my husband and I traveled to Acadia National Park, where we found ourselves on a winding road, stopping to explore anything that caught our eye. One memorable trail led us to a rugged shoreline strewn with small pebbles and enormous boulders. We ventured off in different directions: I climbed atop the boulders near the water, while he wandered closer to the pine trees of the dense forest. This vivid memory served as the inspiration for my painting.

*This painting won Honorable Mention in the Guild of Charlotte Artists’ 2024 Summer Gallery Show.
