Souls Tied, 24"x18"
Oil Paint and Charcoal on Wood Panel
Inspired by the song, “Daylight,” by David Kushner
In Kushner’s song, Daylight, he explores the tension of facing parts of himself he’s not proud of—parts he feels compelled to hide, yet feel good or somehow right. In the song, he finds connection in another who shares similar struggles. There’s a powerful tie in this shared understanding, even when it comes with distress. I think we all recognize that inner tug-of-war as we search for who we are and wrestle with our boundaries.
A few lyrics especially inspired this painting: “There’s a darkness in the distance. I’m beggin’ for forgiveness, but I know I might resist it.” These lines conjured images of a storm on the horizon, symbolizing those times of inner turmoil—when the winds of uncertainty spin all around us, stirring chaos yet revealing our resilience.
