Cliffside Dreams, 16"x20"

$330.00

Oil Painting on Wood Panel, 16”x20”

Cinque Terre is a land of five magical towns on cliffs overlooking the sparkling blue sea. Trains that tunnel through the mountains and cliffside hiking paths through vineyards and lemon groves connect the towns. Houses, painted in bright colors to help fishermen distinguish their homes from the water, dot the coastline. Life is slow and centered around connecting with each other. Luciana, a new friend who was born and raised in the area, told us “The food is good everywhere, because all we have are the rocks, sea, and food.”

This painting was inspired by a view of Manarola from a path on the cliffside. We had grabbed some gelato and found a quiet place to sit overlooking the sea and the town. I could have spent hours right there, watching the water glimmer and the bustle of the town.

I used water-soluble oil paints to create this piece. Thinning the paints with water to allow them to drip and move on their own. The light yet bright colors of sky blue, pastel pink, and soft yellow recall the vibrancy of the town, without becoming overpowering in a painting. The 2.25” deep wood panel creates an attractive and durable surface for the painting, with the original wood on the sides of the painting left exposed. The panel is lightweight and easy to display on a wall or on a shelf. There is no need to frame this piece unless you prefer it. This painting is signed, wired, and ready to hang.
